My two wonderful girls decided they wanted to make a cake the other night. It wasn't GF so I said go ahead.
They got out a box of mix and proceeded to pull out every measuring cup, spoon, and spatula I own. My eyes and facial features were twitching this entire time. Pans were clanking questions were asked like "what's this" "where's 3/4 a cup", "is it okay if there is just a tiny egg shell".
I try so hard to let them have fun in the kitchen. After all, that's where I have all my fun. But I also didn't want them poisoning themselves or putting all that effort into something to have it turn out tasting a bit off. So I jumped in the kitchen. Trying not to spoil their fun I just kinda did things when they weren't looking and only helped when they asked for it.
The cake turned out great. They honestly did a good job. They used a bund pan and turned the cake into a large doughnut. As they and Aaron devoured the cake I had mint chocolate chip ice cream and some hot chocolate.
The girls were also excited the next morning when we ran out of milk, that they were able to eat cake for breakfast. That's healthy right?
